In the past year of 2018, China completed a total capacity of 215 MW concentrated solarpower (CSP) projects, almost 7 times of the 30 MW capacity made before 2018.

Looking at the global CSP market, nearly 1GW CSP plants have been newly built up, of which Morocco contributed 350MW (200 MW NOOR 2 and 150 MW NOOR 3), China 215 MW (Three 1^st batch of demonstration CSP projects and one 15 MW Fresnel CSP plant), South Africa 200 MW (100 MW Ilanga CSP1 and 100 MW Kathu Solar One ), Israel 121 MW Ashalim tower CSP project, Saudi Arabia Waad Al-Shamal ISCC 50MW CSP plant.

As the chart in the above indicates, China has become the No.5 country owning the biggest CSP capacity in the world, and the most popular emerging CSP market with Morocco by contributing 23% of the new capacity in the world.

Coming to the year of 2019, as CSP Focus reported earlier, 6 projects with total capacity of 350 MW are under construction and hopefully to be completed by the end of this year.

What’s more, other CSP commercial plants like Luneng 50 MW tower project are also under smooth development. Some industry sources predict that around 600 MW CSP plants will be completed in the year of 2019. With no doubt, China is expected to lead the new CSP market.

As CSPFocus keeps tracking on the undergoing CSP projects, together with the 4 newly operational plants, another 9 CSP projects have, to some extent, completed the biddings for systems and components & materials purchasing.

As the statistics in the Suppliers List shows, both Chinese local and foreign companies are able to get the deals. Some of the key products are illustrated specifically as below:

Reflector:

Trough: 100 MW Urat parabolic trough CSP plant purchased mirrors with more than 1.2 million square meters, supplied mainly by Rioglass.

Heliostat: 400 MW (six tower and one Fresnel project) projects in China purchased heliostat mirrors in 2018.

Receiver tube:

Urat 100 MW parabolic trough CSP plant and Dacheng Dunhuang 50 MW molten salt Fresnel CSP plant purchased the receiver tubes, with a total volume of more than 70,000.

Tower receiver:

Five tower CSP plants purchased central receivers (two from Hangzhou Boiler, one from Dongfang Boiler and one from CMI Solar. The remaining one is produced by Shouhang)

Trough/Heliostat:

Supcon and Shouhang projects adopt their own technical solutions; Luneng project adopts Abengoa solution; Hami project uses the Stellio heliostat from SBP.

The troughs tend to adopt the overseas technologies like Euro Trough.

Molten salt pump & valve:

Several projects completed the purchase of molten salt pumps and valves, releasing a certain amount of market. The foreign-funded enterprises represented by Flowserve play a dominant role in the products.

More illustrating news to mention about China CSP, around 15 GW CSP plants are under planning for China after-1^st-batch of demonstrations, of which 2GW projects have been developed faster by finishing the feasibility review.

Take the operational 100MW shouhang Dunhuang molten salt tower CSP plant for example, the investment goes to CNY 3 billion, around USD 440 million, China is generating a tremendous CSP market potential with billions of investment.
