Located in Haixi, Qinghai Province in Northwest China, Luneng Haixi 50MW Molten Salt Tower CSP Project is a crucial part of 700MW Luneng Haixi Geermu Multi-energy Complement Integration Optimization Pilot Project, which consists of 200MW PV, 400MW Wind, 50MW CSP and 50MW energy storage system.

The annual electricity generation of the Integration Project is expected to be around 1262.5GWh after completion, reducing standard coal consumption of 401,500 metric tons and dust emission of 5431.96 metric tons.

The 50MW CSP plant was started construction on June 30, 2017, and now entering construction peak period in spite of the freezing winter. As the project EPC contractor SEPCOIII Electric Power  Construction Co., Ltd. says to CSP Focus, it is expected to be operational in months this June 2019.

At that time, Luneng Haixi project will be the first large-scale commercial solar thermal power plant which is not amongst China 1st batch of CSP demonstration projects, and predictably the 4th one after CGN Delingha 50MW parabolic trough, Shouhang Dunhuang 100MW molten salt tower, and SUPCON Delingha 50MW molten salt tower CSP projects.

A total number of 4,400 heliostats (138m² per) will be installed in the solar field covering an area of 610000m². The receiver tower will be 181.1 meters high, of which 147.4 meters are made up of reinforced concrete.

Up to date, the 147.4m concrete tower has been completed, and more than 140 heliostats have been installed and commissioned.

The pouring of steam turbine generators concrete foundation has been completed. The overall civil work of the project has been successfully completed; basic construction work on the transformer room of heat storage, chemical water, air cooling is basically finished; the heat storage and transfer system, deaerator and evaporator drum in SGS system have been all in place. The pipeline installation has started now; fire prevention measures on the hot, cold salt tank have been finished, comprehensive construction on which has commenced.

In terms of the key equipment and service providers, China SEPCOIII Electric Power  Construction Co., Ltd., who is also the EPC contractor of Morocco NOORo 2&3 projects, work as the turnkey EPC for the project owner--Luneng Group. European leading CSP firms Abengoa and Fichtner act as the roles of Solar field technology provider and Owner's Engineer respectively.

Other overseas companies including CMI, Flowserve, OHL, MICC, Emerson, BCB, Siemens provide some of the key products like molten salt pump and valve, heat tracing, DCS, steam turbine.

Some components are manufactured by Chinese local companies, such as mirrors from Daming, steam generator from Hangzhou Boiler, hydraulics from Sichuan CRUN.
