SEMS-PV Solar Resource Measurement and Meteorology Stations for Benban Solar Park (Egypt), the world's largest photovoltaic project
2018.11.14 From: GEONICA S.A.
GEONICA has supplied the weather stations for several plants of the Benban Solar Park complex, a photovoltaic installation of a total of 1,650 MW located in the western desert in Benban (Egypt), which once completed will be the largest photovoltaic installation in the world. Benban Solar Park occupies an area of 37 km2 which is divided into 41 subplants assigned to different companies.
The projects have been developed by the Spanish company TSK, specifically has promoted the plants of ATEN, HORUS, DELTA, AESS1, ABESO and AESO, based on polycrystalline silicon technology and with tracker to an axis, making a total of 384.6 MW.
The measurement systems are made up of five SEMS-PV stations per plant making a total of 30 SEMS-PV supplied that record and store all the measurements of solar irradiance as well as all the additional meteorological parameters necessary for the evaluation of the solar resource and the monitoring of the operation of the photovoltaic plants during the 25 years that the plants are guaranteed a fixed price for the electricity produced.
GEONICA has supplied a complete solution based on its SEMS-PV system formed by the METEODATA datalogger and a set of sensors of a photovoltaic plant (pyranometers and panel temperature) and meteorological sensors. Communications with the plant control system are redundant via Ethernet and Modbus, to receive measurement data in the Data Reception Centre using the GEONICA Suite 4K management software package.
