Colombia’s Promigas launches tender for Concentrated Solar Power studies

2020.01.19     From: HELIOSCSP

Colombian natural gas transporter Promigas has called for expressions of interest from US companies in a consultancy contract for concentrated solar heating systems.

The winning bidder will be tasked with providing a feasibility study to support the development of the technology at commercial and industrial facilities in Colombia, according to a tender notice published by the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). The total value of the contract is US$649,310.

«Promigas is interested in adding solar process heating to its portfolio of energy service offerings,» the the Barranquilla-based firm said, adding that it hoped the technology – also known as solar thermal power – would reduce energy costs.

Concentrated solar power is still in its nascent stages in Latin America. US-based firm EIG Global Energy Partners aims to bring online the region’s first project featuring the technology in May with the scheduled opening of its US$1.4bn Cerro Dominador complex in Chile.

The facility will consist of a 110MW thermosolar plant and a 100MW photovoltaic component.
