Shanghai Electric, a Chinese leading energy and manufacturing corporation, was officially awarded the EPC contract for Dubai 700MW CSP Phase 4 of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park earlier on April 13th in Shanghai, China. With the total investment of USD 4 billion, the Dubai 700MW CSP plant is the world biggest CSP project.

When asked about the reasons why it was ACWA Power and Shanghai Electric consortium winning the project, Mr. HE Saeed Mohammad Ahmad Al Tayer, Managing Director & CEO of Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) explains, “Firstly, both ACWA Power and Shanghai Electric own the most advanced technology and quite experienced in energy sector, and secondly, the price they offer, USD 7.3 cents/kWh, is quite competitive for cost control.”

Mr. Zheng Jianhua confesses that the project, as the world “biggest” and “tallest”, is really a great challenge and will inevitably face some problems and risks. At the same time of reaching “the best”, the project should also be completed in time so as to produce power for the Dubai EXPO in 2020.

However, Zheng continues, “We made sufficient evaluation on the potential challenges and risks, and was confident to offer such a low price.
