Brazil’s first Concentrated Solar Power project to receive prelim license by H1 2016

Brazil’s first concentrated solar power (CSP) project, with a capacity of 1 MW, should receive its preliminary license in the first half of this year, the Ministry of Mines and Energy said on Friday.
This authorisation is only the first of the three environmental licensing levels that the project must cover. After the preliminary license, it needs installation and operation permits.
The CSP project, located in the city of Petrolina, Pernambuco state, is coordinated by Brazil’s Centre for Energy Research (Cepel) and federal utility Chesf. The official licensing body is the Petrolina Municipal Environment Agency (AMMA).
Currenlty, two important steps of the CSP project have been completed. The first was the installation of a weather station to collect data, which has been operating since June 2014, near the site where the plant will be built. In the second stage, German project developer company Enolcon was selected to guide and monitor the installation process.
