Ivanpah Concentrated Solar Power tower could resume work in 3 weeks

The tower damaged by fire last Thursday at the 392-MW Ivanpah concentrating solar power (CSP) plant in California could resume work in three weeks, the Associated Press (AP) said.
Measures have been taken to prevent similar accidents from happening in the future, David Knox, spokesman for NRG Energy (NYSE:NRG), was cited as saying.
One of the towers at the CSP park sustained damage due to a small fire exactly one week ago. Knox has confirmed that the reason was that mirrors were misaligned during maintenance so the wrongly focused sunbeams sparked fire at the tower.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department posted a photo showing melted and burnt steam ducts last week.
The CSP park in the Mojave Desert is a partnership between NRG Energy, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) and BrightSource Energy Inc. It was brought online in 2014, but so far has been unable to meet the output levels agreed in its power purchase agreement (PPA). It was given an extension until July 31, 2016 to improve performance.
